Berlin was bombed more than 300 times during World War II, but the major British firebombing attacks in the winter of 1943-44 were the most concentrated and persistent attempt to destroy the city. Then Soviet forces captured the city during the last major battle of World War II, called the Battle of Berlin, from April to May 1945, where they were allied with the other Western powers against Nazi Germany.
